The history, people, culture, the Danube, vineyards and wines have created a unique entity, a pearl of the ornate region of Srijem and Croatia, the historical Cuccium, Wylok, Ujlaky…, today’s most eastern Croatian city – Ilok – the rampart and defender of western culture. Ilok is the alpha and omega of part of Croatia’s history and Croatian borders, a city with a royal past, picturesque appearance and increasingly a city of wine and textiles.

The turbulent history of Ilok can even be seen and experienced today as soon you enter the old, Medieval city centre. The walls of the fortress, Castle of the Dukes Odescalchi with Renaissance park architecture (in which there also a rare tree gingko biloba), church and monastery of St. John Capistran, an old wine cellar and monuments of ottoman culture are a part of the old, urban complex which falls among the most preserved and most interesting in the continental part of Croatia.
